ChinaSona Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable corporation based
in Los Angeles County, California. Started in 2007, its initial aim
was to promote tolerance through understanding in the communities in the
United States
ChinaSona Foundation accepts a wide range of quality used books. We are
particularly interested in:
* Classic and contemporary literature
* Fact books (history, business, biographies etc.)
* Children's literature and picture/story books
* Dictionaries
* Primary, secondary, and higher education textbooks, copyrighted after 2000
* Other academic books
* Books in Spanish, Chinese, and French
ChinaSona Foundation does not accept:
* Magazines (certain exceptions apply)
* Books in poor condition (torn, missing pages etc.)
* Encyclopedias
* Textbooks copyrighted before 2005
Tax Benefits:
All donations of books and funds are deductible to the extent permitted by
law. The value of your books is deductible, together with any out-of-pocket
expenses for packing and shipping them to us.
Once you have made your gift, please notify us (by U.S. mail, phone, fax or
e-mail), and we will send a formal letter of acknowledgment to you. If the
value of your donation is greater than $500, we will also send an IRS Form
8283 which you may file with your tax return.
Shipping
Media Mail rate
You are permitted to use Media Mail Rate, formerly known as Special Standard
Mail. As of January 2008, this rate is approximately US$18.79 per 50 pounds,
for materials such as the following:
"books (at least 8 pages),...printed music, printed test materials, sound
recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and
binders consisting of medical information, and computer-readable media." (USPS

You may need to cite this regulation at your Post Office if the clerk
questions your use of the rate. You can print an overview of the Media Mail
Regulation from the USPS Web site.
Library Mail rate
You are permitted to use the economical Library Mail Rate to send your
materials to Bridge to Asia. As of January 2008, this rate is approximately
US$17.70 per 50 pounds. Eligible materials include:
"books, recordings, educational and museum materials...(which) may be sent
to, from, or between...a nonprofit organization (such as Bridge to
Asia)...and an individual who has no financial interest in the sale,
promotion, or distribution of the materials." (USPS Quick Service Guide

Again, you may need to cite this regulation at your local Post Office,
should they question your use of the rate. You can print an overview of the

Donate to Us
Please contact us and send us the title and author of the book you wish to donate. We will then send the books to countries where the books are needed. In some occasions, we may exchange the books with other readers or sell the books in the US at the market rate. However, the proceeds from the sale will be used for non-profit purposes. Thank you.
